What is CBD?

Jun 17, 2020

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is a compound found in the Cannabid sativa plant, also known as marijuana or hemp. There are two parts of the plant: the psychoactive portion, which produces THC, and the non-psychoactive portion, which is CBD. CBD doesn’t get you high, but rather imparts a feeling of relaxation and calm.

How can CBD help me?

Here are just some of the conditions that CBD has been proven to help treat:

  • Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Acne
  • Substance abuse
  • Cancer-related symptoms (nausea, vomiting, pain)

CBD is able to treat these conditions very effectively because they work with the endocannabinoid system in the body, which regulates daily functions.[1] Pharmaceutical drugs are usually used to treat these conditions, but they often have significant side effects and can be addictive. CBD can be and has been used to replace prescription medications because of its unique effect on the body.[2]

Who uses CBD?

According to a Gallup survey conducted in 2019, one out of every seven Americans uses CBD. Out of all the reasons given for using CBD products, the most common were pain, anxiety, insomnia, and arthritis.[3]

What are the side effects?

CBD is generally considered safe, though in some cases, side effects can occur. Some studies have noted diarrhea, changes in appetite and weight, fatigue, and irritability as side effects. CBD is also known to interact with several medications, so we recommend having a discussion with your doctor before starting to take CBD in order to ensure your safety and avoid potentially harmful interactions.

When trying CBD, start with small doses at home in the evening so you can see how it affects you.

Is CBD safe to use?

A report published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2018 reported that CBD is a promising treatment for many medical conditions, is well tolerated, has a good safety profile, and doesn’t appear to be a risk for abuse, dependence, or other public-health related problems.[4]

However, we recommend talking with your doctor before beginning to use CBD products to ensure it will not negatively interact with any other medications you may be taking.

CBD is not regulated by the FDA, so it is important to make sure that the products you use are safe and clean of other substances. At CBD Worx, all of our products are tested by a third-party lab to ensure they are meeting our strict quality guidelines. You can look at our lab results here.

What are the forms it comes in?

Sublingual: The most common method of taking CBD is drops underneath the tongue in the form of a tincture. Using the dropper in the bottle, customers place a few drops under their tongue, letting the solution absorb into their blood vessels. CBD Worx offers tinctures in the natural flavors of cinnamon, citrus, and mint.

Topical: Another popular method is topically, in which customers can target their relief at any pain that is in a centralized location. The CBD absorbs directly into the skin and alleviates pain. CBD Worx offers both pain relief cream and hand sanitizer.

Edible: Customers can also ingest CBD through an edible, which can be an easy and discreet way to bring relief. CBD Worx offers delicious gummy bears as a fun alternative edible.

Gel Capsules: Finally, gel capsules are a quick and efficient way to ingest CBD. CBD Worx offers soft gel capsules with terpenes added so they are extra effective.
